High Point’s Weather

High Point`s weather is usually nice. There are four seasons: summer, winter, fall and spring. In winter, it is cold, sometimes it snows. In spring, it becomes warm and it rains. Flowers and plants grow back at this time. In summer, it is usually hot. In summer, sometimes it rains and the temperature in summer is around 85-95°. In fall, it becomes chilly and the leaves turn different colors like orange, yellow, and red. The weather in high point is normal and there are all of the seasons.

Thanksgiving

          One holiday celebrated in North Carolina is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the  fourth Thursday of November. Thanksgiving   is when  the  family  gets  together   and   we  eat the turkey. It feels good  when   you   are   sitting   next   to   your   family.  When   you   are done   you  and   your family  can play a fun game.

Dixie Classic Fair

Every year there is a Dixie Classic Fair in North Carolina. The fair is a place with a lot of fun rides, good food and other exciting things. The Dixie Classic Fair is located in Winston Salem. It is open about two weeks. It only costs adults $8 and for children $4. The Dixie Classic Fair is for excitement and fun with your family. The Dixie Classic Fair is a great way to spend time with your family. The fair closes at 12:00 pm. People can leave early or wait to see fireworks. 

Tanglewood

How would you like to see millions of lights and spend time with your family? The Festival of Lights in Clemmons, North Carolina is a great place to visit. There are displays such as Frosty the Snowman, winter fishing and a fireworks finale. The lights are open November through January from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. It costs about 15 dollars a car. The best way to save money is to gather your family up in one car and go as a group.  You have to stay in your car and drive slowly through the lights at night. We went there because it was the Christmas season. We hade fun and I am glad because I got to go with my family and be with each other.  The Festival of Lights is full of beautiful lights!

China King

Do you want to go to a restaurant to eat food with your family or friends? China King is a Chinese restaurant in High Point. It has good food and you can choose from many different things. There is chicken, rice, ice cream and fruit. Everybody can find something to eat at China King. It is located at 1112 Eastchester Dr High Point, NC 27265. If you go eat there you can pay with credit card or cash. Sam's Club

Sam’s is a good place to buy food. Sam’s is kind of a grocery store where you can buy a lot of things like: electronics, CD’s, vegetables, fruits and other types of items. It is located on Wendover Avenue.  At Sam’s you will need a Sam’s membership card, which it has your picture on it.  Sam’s is different from a regular grocery store; they do not have bags for your groceries.  This store has large quantities of things, so it is great for a big family.  You shop with the cart and then take the cart to your car.You can pay with the Sam’s card or you can pay with cash. Wet-n-Wild

One of the most fun places to visit is Wet-n-Wild Water Park. Wet-n-Wild is located in Greensboro, North Carolina on 3910 South Holden Road. Some of the rides are Twin Twister and the Lazee River. Both rides are very fun. If you get hungry you can pack a picnic or buy food in the park. One of the places they sell food is at the Dog House. They sell hot dogs. The best lemonade store is called Lemon True. I think Wet-n-Wild is very fun and you should visit! For more information go to www.emeraldpointe.com. The water park is open in the summer time. It is the best water park for people that live near High Point and other places too.

Movies

         Going to the movies is fun!! If I met a person new to the area, I would take them to see a movie.  We watch movies at the movie theater.  There is a great theater at Oak Hollow Mall.  When you go to the movies you have to buy a ticket.  Tickets cost about $10.  You can buy popcorn, drinks and candy to eat at the movies. Have a good time at the movie!

Oak Hollow Mall

If a person is new to High Point a good place to visit is Oak Hollow Mall. Oak Hollow Mall is open Monday to Saturday 10:00am-9:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Oak Hollow Mall is on 921 Eastchester Drive in High Point.  At the mall, you can eat at Golden Corral and you can eat food and deserts.  Also, you can go to Shoe Show to get some shoes and boots. You can go to GameStop to get games for your GameBoyand for your PSPand your XBox360. Grandfather Mountain

One place to visit in North Carolina is Grandfather Mountain.  It has big and small mountains and there is a museum.  It also has animals in the water. It took my family about 2 to 3 hours to get there by car from High Point.  The cost for an adult is about $15 and a child about $7. The mile high swinging bridge is  a little scary when you walk across it. If you want to visit the website, you can go to www.grandfathermountain.com for more details. One thing about Grandfather Mountain is that it is a huge place to visit and explore.  It also has a store and a restaurant near the parking lot.

Food Lion

Food Lion is a grocery store. It is a place were you can buy food. It can be found on Westchester Drive or North Main Street. You can buy fruit like grapes, watermelon and strawberries. You can also buy vegetables such as broccoli, carrots and onions. You can also buy other things like flowers and napkins. This store has a lion as a symbol. Middle School

My blog will be about middle school. We enter our school and then we go to the cafeteria if we want to eat breakfast. Then we go to lockers and to our class. In our school we have eight teachers. You have four core classes and four encore classes.  One of my classes is physical education. In PE class you will play fun games if you dress out. If you don’t being your PE clothes you will get a bad grade. Some of the other encores are music, business, Spanish and more.  Your core classes are math, language arts, science and social studies. Our cores last 1 hour and 30 minutes.  Ferndale has great teachers, like Mr. Biles, Ms Hoffman and Mr. Jordan. You can have good days and bad days.  We have bench marks every quarter.  Have a good time in middle school!

Halloween

The coolest holiday in the USA is Halloween. Halloween is only one time during the whole year. Halloween is on October the 31st. On Halloween, you can wear some creepy costumes and some pretty costumes, for example like some people wear witch costumes, ghost costumes, princess costumes, skeleton costumes, and others. After you are all dressed up, you go from house to house by saying “TRICK OR TREAT” and people give you get a lot of candy! It is a really good holiday; I think you will enjoy it also just like I do. Hearing all of this might make you think “I wish Halloween would come soon.”Actually it already passed, so you have to wait until next October.  

Guilford County Schools

         Guilford County Schools is the school system for High Point. When I came to the United States I moved to High Point and I went to GCS Newcomers School to learn how to speak English. The Newcomers School helps new students learn English.  The Newcomer is like family school. In North Carolina school begins in August and finishes in June. Once a student finishes the year at Newcomers then you go to your regular school. I move to Ferndale Middle School. Ferndale is a great school. I have also heard about Guilford Elementary for little kids. It’s great school for kids. I also know about High Point Central High School.  It has a lot of classes. There are 67 elementary schools, 22 middle schools and 26 high schools in Guilford County. There are several awesome schools in Guilford County! Greensboro Grasshoppers

                 One of the fun places to go in Greensboro it to go see the Greensboro Grasshoppers play baseball. They play at New Bridge Bank Park.  A lot of people go to see them play baseball. Some people go to have fun or shop for souvenirs for the game to cheer for the Greensboro Grasshoppers. They also have food like cotton candy popcorn, hotdogs and all kinds of food like that. Kids also have fun there because they have a playground for little kids. To see the Greensboro Grasshoppers it would be about 10 dollars for each adult and kids are less than 10 dollars. Most people like to go to see their friends and to enjoy watching the game. I have been there to see them play baseball on a field trip from school. I saw a few friends from other schools there. We were just walking around looking at the place and we went to shop. Then we got hungry and went to go buy food. We had a lot of fun because my favorite sport is baseball that is one of the reason I suggest new people to go see the Grasshoppers.

High Point Holiday Parade

          An entertaining place to visit is the High Point Holiday Parade. A parade is when spectators stand on the street and watch cars, floats and bands go by. This parade starts the Christmas holiday season. It is held on Main Street and Green Drive. This year it will be on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 3:00. It starts at Green and Main and ends on Parkway. We have lots of cars and floats. We will also have the 2010 Miss North Carolina. There will be performances by high school marching bands. The parade will be escorted by the High Point Police Department and concluded with Santa Claus. For more information visit http://highpointparade.com/. North Carolina Zoo

       The North Carolina Zoo is located in Asheboro. It is a very fun place to visit and enjoy. The NC Zoo has 1,100 animals.  There are many different kinds of animals from each different continent.  Some examples of the animals are polar bears, lions, and hippopotamus.  The zoo is open 364 days a year; the zoo closes only on Christmas day and during severe weather.  The zoo isn’t free; you must have a ticket to get in. An adult ticket is only $10, for seniors, it is $8, for a child (2-12) $6, and for child under (2) it is free. Pequeno Mexico

Pequeno Mexico is a great Mexican store in High Point. It is located on South Main Street. For all the Hispanic people out there that are looking for a Mexican grocery there is a lot of things like Mexican candy, chile verde, habanero, tostadas, avocado, chile seco, flan and chips. It also has a butcher shop and a restaurant. You can eat inside or outside. The butcher shop has all kinds of meat like pork, chicken, beef, and goat. You can also buy dairy products such things like milk, cheese and yogurt. All Mexicans like fresh cheese. In the restaurant they have several good Mexican dishes like cesadiyas, torta’s, tamales, and cooked meat. It sure is the best place for a Mexican to shop in High Point!

Carowinds

          In North Carolina there are lots of fun places to go. There is one place in Charlotte. Charlotte is a city in North Carolina. It is pretty fun place to visit, but what I am talking about, it is very fun place. It is Carowinds. Carowinds is a very big park in Charlotte. There are lots of roller coasters and other water rides. They also have inside games too, but you have to pay more money for that. Carowinds is in between South and North Carolina. It is very expensive place. The cost of the Carowinds is about $45 to $50 per person. Most of the people look on the Internet to find more information about Carowinds. Carowinds’ website is http://www.carowinds.com; also you can look for prices and new rides. Every year they built about 2 to 3 new rides. Sometimes the schools in North Carolina take field trips to Carowinds. Most people enjoy going to Carowinds. It is the one of the best places in North Carolina.
